How to Make Herbal Ointment

Описание к видео How to Make Herbal Ointment

In this video I demonstrate a simple recipe for the herbal ointment I have been making for years for my eczema. It uses simple ingredients, like chickweed, excellent for the skin and grows wild around here. Although this is a very specific recipe, it can be easily adapted to whatever needs by varying the herbs used, as long as the wax and oil ratio are kept the same.
Here is the recipe:
A few handfuls of Chamomile blossoms
a handful licorice root
a handful calendula flowers
a couple of handful of chickweed herb, or more if desired
extra virgin olive oil
2 ounces of beeswax
1 ounce evening primrose oil
A few drops lavender oil (optional)

First step is the oil infusion:
Place all the herbs in a stainless steel saucepan
Pour olive oil on the herbs until it is about an inch or two above the herbs and cover.
Place on the burner at very low heat and allow to simmer very slowly for about three hours. This will extract the active ingredients.
Alternately, you could place everything in a jar to infuse for a few weeks, and shake three times daily.
Once the oil has infused, it is time to strain it. You can use a fine mesh strainer, or coffee filter.

Now to the ointment:
In a saucepan put the following:
1 oz evening primrose oil
7 oz infused oil
2 oz beeswax
Heat very gently on stove until wax is melted.
Remove from burner, and add the lavender oil.
Stir gently and pour into containers
Let it sit undisturbed until solid.
