Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, has arrived at the scene where tributes are being left for the victims of the Southport knife attack.

The home secretary laid flowers of her own and read through the many tributes left for the two children killed and 11 people injured during yesterday’s attack. She was joined by Patrick Hurley, the Labour MP for Southport, and Emily Spurrell, the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner.

As well as flowers and cards, teddy bears and footballs were left at the edge of Tithebarn Road, a five-minute walk from The Hart Space where the attack took place. A police cordon still surrounds much of the site this morning.
