The Punic Wars were a series of three titanic conflicts fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 to 146 BCE — battles that would decide the future of the Mediterranean world. In this series, we traced the origins of both powers, their rival ambitions, and their explosive encounters at sea and on land.

We saw Rome’s clumsy-but-clever naval debut in the First Punic War, Hannibal’s daring Alpine invasion and the horror of Cannae in the Second, and finally, the siege and annihilation of Carthage in the Third. Along the way, we met bold commanders like Scipio Africanus, listened to Cato’s relentless “Carthago delenda est,” and watched as a fragile peace unraveled into total war.

What began as a rivalry for trade routes became a war of survival — and ended with one city in ashes and the other on its way to empire.
