Being known as “the reuse guy,” I’ve been getting more calls for house cleanouts, as people know that I can find uses for a lot of things. Not only do I not want to see things in the trash, but I want items to go to people who would appreciate them. My most recent house cleanout has been a 16-month dissection of a 17-room house that belongs to a collector of many things: my dad.

One of the biggest collections in the house was vintage diecast model cars and within that, the most of any one car brand was the owner’s favorite: Volkswagen. He was a former mechanic that specialized in repairing Volkswagens. The cars range from the 1950s until the early 2000s and they were made by brands like Corgi, Durago, Dinky, Ertl, Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, Kyoto, Maisto, Matchbox, Road Signature, Sun Star, etc. The scales range from 1:18 to 1:24 to 1:64 to 1:87 scale.

For years, the Volkswagen collection was scattered in different rooms around the house and I had always wanted to put them all together. So, after many months of cleaning and organizing the house, I finally created "The Volkswagen Room."
