Hundreds of families have packed up overnight and deserted their homes, as Haryana’s Millennium City, Gurgaon, begins a crackdown on Bangladeshis living illegally in the city. I visited the Bengali Market to find out the truth behind claims that police in plain clothes are targeting unsuspecting residents. Locals say anyone speaking Bengali is being rounded up and beaten. They insist they have Voter IDs and Aadhaar cards, yet are still being asked to prove they are Indian.
