How To Add Bottle Cage Mounts To A Bike Frame

Описание к видео How To Add Bottle Cage Mounts To A Bike Frame

I show how to add bottle cage mounts to a bike frame that doesn't have braze-ons or other mountings. Such as vintage bicycles or maybe a bike that only has mounts for one bottle cage, but you want to add a second bottle cage. This is done by drilling the frame and installing rivnuts (rivet nuts). This is for steel or aluminum frames. Do not do this on a carbon fiber frame. You assume all responsibility and risk if you choose to do this. If your frame is steel, use steel rivnuts, and if your frame is aluminum, use aluminum rivnuts.
The rivnut's should be M5. But they come in different lengths. You need to look at the "grip range". That is the thickness that it will clamp on to. The thickness of the frame tube needs to be in the grip range.

By the way, you may want to overhaul the bottom bracket after doing this to clean out any metal debris that maybe have fallen down there. Unless you have a sealed cartridge BB, then you don't need to worry.

Only try this on the MAIN TUBES (down tube, seat tube, top tube). Do not try this on forks or stays. Those tubes are smaller diameter and drilling a hole in them is a much larger percentage of the diameter. And forks are under much more stress. And if a fork fails, it tends to fail catastrophically potentially causing serious injury.
A better solution for forks is something like these:
