Explosive Supercell Time-Lapse, Miles City, MT 5-20-2020

Time-lapse of us approaching this incredible lone supercell thunderstorm out on the rolling hills south of Miles City, MT. This is the most explosive thunderstorm development I've ever witnessed, as this storm blew up and drifted slowly to the north eventually producing tennis ball hail on I-94 east of Miles City. We also believe this storm split as you can see the updraft begins to rotate in opposite directions. The right moving cell became the dominate storm as it latched on to a moist southeasterly low level jet.
This beast certaintly draws comparision to a nuclear explosion or a volcanic eruption but this is the result of an abundance of convective availabe potential energy (CAPE) present in the atmoshphere combined with weak steering (shear) allowed this storm to take this incredible shape.
