Описание к видео 09 (Encore) — Smiles and Tears 【 ENG ╱ JP SUBS 】~ MOTHER 2/EarthBound 30th Anniversary Concert

“Smiles and Tears”, as heard in the MOTHER 2/EarthBound 30th anniversary concert on June 22nd 2024 @ 8PM JST, with little-to-no edits, with English (literal & localized) and Japanese (jp & romaji) subtitles.
Song originally composed by Keiichi Suzuki, lyrics written by Shigesato Itoi. Subtitled by me, further credits below.

See original EarthBound version here:    • Smiles and Tears
And the demo track here (no lyrics):    • MOTHER - Smiles And Tears (Demo Track)
Playlist (i.e, all concert songs):    • MOTHER 2/EarthBound 30th Anniversary ...

Vocals: Miu Sakamoto
“I MISS YOU” Voice: Keiichi Suzuki *
Guitar: Keiichi Suzuki and Wataru Sawabe
Keyboards: Yusuke Sato
Manipulator & Horn: Tomohiko Gondo
English translation (literal): Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin **
English translation (localized): "Q" on EarthBound Central **
Subtitles: Me! (   / @marsybarz  )

* This is a guess. Let me know if you know who it is!
** Both translations are from an EarthBound Central post. The EB Central post had the literal lyrics, while the localized lyrics from Q are seen in the comment section of it. The lyrics are slightly edited in this video, and the ones in specific used here was from the Wikibound page of Smiles and Tears: https://wikibound.info/wiki/Smiles_an...

Seeing as EB Central has been down for 1yr+ now, here's both the URL to the original post (it'll spit an error at you): http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/01/... ,
and the URL on the Wayback Machine (so you can actually read it)

If you scroll down, you'll find Q's original unedited lyrics in the comments, as well as other fan localizations from different people

‼️‼️ [IMPORTANT NOTE] ‼️‼️
(to those singing in English, please read)
I timed the ENG localized subs very weirdly at 5:16. This is because I didn't check how you were supposed to sing it. Correction below:

If you're singing it, read it like this:
"tooku ni hana" = "We two are now far"
"tooku ni hanarete..." = "We two are now far apart..." (Read this in tune with 5:16.)
This ISN'T the literal translation of 「遠くに離れて・・・」, This is simply for the localized ENG. Apologies for any confusion!
(for those wondering, the literal translation for it would be "[are now] far apart...")

[EXTRA NOTE]
I don't know Japanese at all, all JP is taken off Wikibound. I did check the meanings of words & make sure that it was timed correctly, besides what's addressed above.

— No, unfortunately I do not have the VOD for the concert, I only have the audio.
and I'm only able to guess who's singing through their voice and a few clips released by Hobonichi.

Such a damn good rendition, I literally audibly screamed “FUCK” when I heard the "I miss you" from Suzuki. Fun fact, this is also the first time we've officially heard the song sung with lyrics! (they're written in the MOTHER 2 manual though back in 1994 by Itoi, so if you've read or heard the lyrics somewhere then someone probably reposted them or sung them unofficially.) And god damn did Sakamoto kill it on this one. Great work, just like the rest of the concert.

Also, I've never subtitled something before, so that might explain any weird mistake I made that I didn't address. So sorry! ♥
