The Georgia Bureau of Investigation released new findings in the mystery surrounding the deaths of two 19-year-old twin brothers from Lawrenceville. Their bodies were found with gunshot wounds on top of a remote north Georgia mountain in early March.

The GBI initially said the preliminary investigation indicated Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis died in a murder-suicide. But based on the medical examiner's autopsy and other investigative findings, the GBI has now said both teens died by suicide.

The Lewis brothers were found shot to death on the morning March 8. Hikers made the discovery at the summit of Bell Mountain in Towns County, near the North Carolina border. The discovery came as a shock to their family, who had believed the twins were in Boston visiting friends at the time.

Family initially said the brothers had booked a flight to Boston for 7 a.m. on March 7, but the two never made their flight. Just 24 hours later, they were found dead in an area the family said they had never visited before.

However, the GBI said Wednesday cell data established a timeline of their location from their Gwinnett County home to Bell Mountain, which was about 90 miles away.

"In the video that corresponds to those locations, the Lewis brothers are seen alone," the GBI said.

Agents added only Naazir Lewis went to the airport on the day of the trip.

"Records show Naazir is the only person that had an airline ticket," the GBI said in a news release.
