Early season trip to Hull Mountain to attempt to splitboard and survey the damage that the Ranch Fire left of Snow Mountain Wilderness. Didn't get the best of snowboarding conditions. The snow quality was actually good, but there just wasn't enough coverage yet. No worries though, since splitboard trips are about so much more than just the downhill riding aspect for me, especially when I go to these unique high peak zones of the Mendocino National Forest.

On the way up I was stoked to time a nice sunrise and one of the more epic cloud movement displays I have ever seen. Ended up getting some of my best timelapse footage to date and just watching the show was a highlight of the trip for me. It was a bummer to see the massive amount of destruction left by the Ranch Fire across the way and see all of the snow up at Snow Mountain, knowing it won't be open for access this season. Nothing to do, but embrace the change at this point and at least I still was able to see some green trees that survived. Not all was lost and it will be interesting to watch the place as it turns a new leaf and starts to recover.
