Navigating Bias in Technology: Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Inclusive Ex Libris Products/ Judith Fraenkel (ExLibris)

Technology has become an integral part of our lives, in our context library products - shaping the way we communicate, work, and navigate the world around us. However, despite its potential for positive impact, technology often reflects and perpetuates societal biases, leading to exclusionary practices and reinforcing inequities. To address this challenge, it is crucial to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles throughout the entire product design and development process.

This presentation aims to shed light on the significance of addressing bias in technology and the fundamental role of DEI in fostering inclusive product design and how this is being addressed for the Ex Libris-suite of products. We will explore the causes and consequences of bias in technology, highlighting its impact and presenting various strategies to address it during product creation and development.

Recognizing the urgency to rectify these issues, this presentation will also emphasise the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in product development. We will discuss strategies to proactively identify and mitigate bias in technology, fostering a culture of inclusivity and promoting equitable outcomes.
