James Gunn’s Superman is the hopeful, heartfelt, punk-rock superhero film we NEEDED right now. In an age of cynicism, deconstruction, and increasingly hollow capes, Superman stands tall as a proud, defiantly sincere rebuttal to the modern CBM machine. This is Superman with a pulse — alive, vibrant, emotional, and unmistakably handcrafted. A new cinematic era begins here, and Gunn is swinging for the sun.

Drawing inspiration from All-Star Superman and the iconic animated series, Gunn crafts a film that’s as colorful and eccentric as it is emotionally grounded. It embraces the absurdity of comics in an almost Kingsman meets Batman Forever sorta aesthetic. This thing MOVES — bursting with energy, comic-book dynamism, and the kind of stylized sincerity that feels completely unique in today’s landscape. No question: Superman is the defining take for a new generation.

David Corenswet is every bit the Superman we’ve been waiting for — earnest, relatable, quietly funny — and that chemistry with Rachel Brosnahan? Unreal. She’s not just the definitive Lois Lane, she is the logical heart of the film — the black cat to Clark’s golden retriever, and their romance? The most endearing superhero love story since Tobey and Kirsten. Flawless.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex is PERFECT: petty, obsessive, and finally given the narrative weight he deserves in a rivalry that feels more Batman v Joker than anything we've seen from these two on screen before. And don’t even get me started on Jimmy Olsen and Mr. Terrific — scene. stealers.

Gunn’s Superman doesn’t just fly — it SOARS. It’s a love letter to the character, the medium, and everything hopeful superhero stories can still be. A genuine tonic to the doom and gloom of the current comic book movie scene, and a thrilling promise of what the DCU could be.

One of the most authored and human superhero films I’ve ever seen. I walked out wanting more — more of this world, more of these characters, more of this Superman. Believe me: you will too.
