Karakoram Traverse

Описание к видео Karakoram Traverse

This is the story of the grit and determination of the intrepid mountaineers of the Himalayan Club against the backdrop of the rugged East Karakorams.
The North-western extension of the Himalaya, known as the Karakoram range, spans the borders between Pakistan, India and China. These are the most forbidding mountain ranges in the world with several peaks over 7000 metres. The Karakorams have the largest g
laciers outside the polar ice caps and give birth to some of the wildest rivers in the world. The topography is characterized by craggy peaks and steep slopes.
When a team of mountaineers from The Himalayan Club started their expedition from the quaint village Rongdo in the southern end of the East Karakoram mountains, they did not know where they would finally reach. With an audacious plan to traverse the mighty eastern Karakorams, the six-member team set off from Mumbai on 5th July 2017. 48 days later, the team returned to Mumbai having completed more than 100 kms of the traverse across pristine glaciers and mountains and scaling a 6165 m peak. They crossed three high passes – Rongdo la (5800 m), Argan la (5950 m) and Zamoriyon la (5860 m). This was the first crossing of Argan la and the Zamoriyon la.
The expedition had to overcome several hurdles including injury, erratic weather and extreme cold.
