Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (abbreviated as CISCE) is a national level, private, Board of School education in India that conducts the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education and the Indian School Certificate examinations for Class X and Class XII respectively.It was established in 1958.

History

The then Minister of Education- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, presided over a conference in 1952 on pan-India level Certificate examinations. The aim was to consider the replacement of the overseas Cambridge School Certificate Examination by an All India Examination.
The Inter-State Board for Anglo-Indian Education came to a resolution that, it was necessary of setting up of an Indian Council to administer the - Syndicate's Examination in India held by The Cambridge University. This Indian Council was set-up on the grounds that a board was required to administer the examinations being conducted in India by the worldly-reputed University of Cambridge and to optimally tailor them according to the nation's need. The future education policies were prepared under the aegis of the Cambridge varsity.The Council was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act(1860) in December 1967.

International accolades

UCAS applauding the ISC Examinations:
On a commendable note, the National Admissions and Accreditation agency in the United Kingdom - UCAS (Universities and College Admission Services) has recognized the ISC at par with the Higher School qualification of the Universities in Scotland (United Kingdom). It marked the western-education inspired course quality being maintained by CISCE in their examinations, a sole-feat in Indian education boards.

Often, these exams (specially the ISC) is ranked if-not-higher-than-equal to the British GCSE examinations, especially observed when these students apply for Foreign universities in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Singapore etc. They don't seem to have any problems regarding comprehension, comparability and competitiveness of ISC scores.

Credibility

The CISCE exams are internationally recognized due to the reputed United Kingdom-inspired syllabus (by Cambridge Univ). Most of European Universities will duly accept ISC ie. Year 12 English language grades of avg. 80% + in lieu of high-grades in English proficiency test such as the IELTS or TOEFL. Mostly, this perk is valid for other subjects too (acceptance varied univ to univ). This is a premium feat, enjoyed in India at time by only CISCE students, also it is the only Indian board enjoying this perk.At time it was the only Internationally-apt syllabus board in India. (Now GCSE, IB are worth mentioning but these aren't Indian boards).

ISC board Class 12 Eligibility Criteria
Students can be admitted to Class XI in the schools affiliated to ISC board only if they have cleared the ICSE exam or an equivalent Class 10 board exam with five subjects, including English.

Students can appear for ISC exams only of they have at least 75% attendance in school in Class 11 and 12 by January 31 of the corresponding academic year. Anyhow, the Chief Executive and Secretary may allow the students with 60% attendance and above in special circumstances like prolonged illness.

There is no specified age limit for the exam.

ISC Class 12 Syllabus
Students can choose three, four or five electives under the ISC board. English is compulsory. A student cannot sit for more than six subject exams, including English. Students also need to secure a pass grade in Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and Community Service to be able to appear for the exam.
The Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination is conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certification Examination (CISCE). Available only in English medium, it is conducted for those students who have completed two years of study after clearing the ICSE or an equivalent Class 10 board examination.

Last year, the pass percentage of students in ICSE board exams was 98.20% while the pass percentage in ISC board exams was 95.15% . The CISCE board conducted Class 12 board exams for 50 written subjects, including 14 Indian languages, 5 foreign languages and 2 classical languages.
