By adding in a motor and a battery, mountain bike companies have managed to raise their pricing exponentially.

Just look at the new Santa Cruz Bullit. 8-12k USD for a bike that still weighs in at 50lbs for a carbon fiber framed large.

Maybe there's gold in the frame?

You don't need this, you really don't - especially if you are starting to think about getting an E-MTB.

I understand the allure of these bikes - I mean they look pretty cool, feature the latest whatever, and have the best marketing.

But do you need that? No - you can get some good deals right if you take the time to look.

Save some money on your first EMTB and check around. Don't be fooled or suckered in by the FOMO.
