"Hades Project Zeorymer" is a four episode OVA series, loosely based on Yoshiki Takaya's manga series. The series is a dark take on the super robot genre featuring a moody atmosphere and a central conflict with numerous unfolding mysteries. The series is often remembered for the titular robot's overwhelming strength compared to its opponents, the tension of the story often coming less from the danger Zeorymer faces and more from the sense of dread brought as the character's are unable to control their situations. Beyond the loose beats of the story, the OVA is largely distinct from the manga version.

The series follows Masato Akitsu, a teenage boy who is surrendered to the Japanese government to pilot a giant robot, Zeorymer, that had been stolen from an evil organization known as Tekkoryuu. The Tekkoryuu seek world domination using their own giant robots, but remain bitterly frustrated by the theft of Zeorymer, which had been carried out by a scientist who had betrayed their organization.

It is recommended to avoid the original manga version due to depictions of sexualized child abuse, which may even lead for it to be illegal to possess in some jurisdictions. Possibly for this reason, the manga is not credited to Yoshiki Takaya, but to a separate pen name, Chimi Moriwo. It is followed by a sequel, Project Zeorymer Omega, which is a more mainstream work which avoids the sexual content of the original.
