[23 hours] Kaa's Ice Age: Spinning Blizzard by Kaa-Bling (Team 0%) (Super Mario Maker 2)

Описание к видео [23 hours] Kaa's Ice Age: Spinning Blizzard by Kaa-Bling (Team 0%) (Super Mario Maker 2)

Very fun level by Kaa-Bling. Spliced clear video. This is definitely my hardest Team 0% clear (including MM1), and probably my hardest clear overall (also including MM1). It was one of the most attempted 0% 2020 levels when I started, and THE most attempted one when I finished (I started when it had 7.8k attempts)

I started grinding this about 4 days ago. I got reminded of this level when someone mentioned top challenges outside JP/US, so I decided to rewatch Kaa's clear video, and I thought to myself "hmm, this doesn't look that hard", and decided to try it. It turns out that pretty much everything here is harder than it looks, however I still managed to clear it.

I actually tried this level about 2 months earlier (for 15-30 minutes), but I gave up quickly because the jump on the 2nd giant snowball at the beginning was difficult. But this time, I got to the fire flower part after around half an hour. I then quit attempts and started rebuilding the level in editor to practice.

At first, the hardest part for me were the cape parts. The snow juggling at 1:20 was particularly difficult (because I was doing it wrong), as well as the precise jumps at 1:26 and 1:37. However, as time went on, I became more and more consistent at them, and then they became relatively easy.

The fire flower part was painful during my attempts. I kept completely missing the fire shots at 1:15 for most of the grind; usually I either killed a snowball or didn't shoot an ice block in time. However, I was using a wrong strategy. I tapped left to slow down Luigi a bit, but that made it harder to shoot the ice block. Around a few hours of playtime before my winning run, I stopped holding left/right for a moment, and I became very consistent at it. I also had to find a good spot to land on the snowball falling from the 2nd red pipe, because if it was too much to the right, it would kill the snowball under the 1st ice block.

Now that I have beaten the level, I'd say that the beginning is the hardest. The 2nd giant snowball jump is sometimes controlled, sometimes a full jump. I had to use intuition to tell how high my jump should be. Landing on the 1st snowball spawned from the pokey was also precise. Very often, the snowball at 0:55 didn't land on the spring, but on the cloud below. That also killed many of my runs.

Spinning Blizzard barely was one of the final 10,000 uncleared 2020 levels, and if I hadn't had that dumb nai at the beginning, it wouldn't.

Still, I'm very happy to have finally cleared it. This is the 2nd most time I have spent on a single level (I think), behind U-Break with 32 hours. However, I beat U-Break in April 2018, when I was worse at the game, so I think it's fair to say this is a more impressive clear.
