AGL Energy will shutter its coal-fired Liddell power station and invest $1.36 billion in gas, wind and solar energy projects.

The Turnbull government had pressured AGL Energy to extend the life of the Liddell power station due to the current energy supply crisis facing Australia. But in a rebuff to the government's requests, AGL has revealed an alternative plan to replace the 1680 megawatts produced by the Liddell power station.

AGL Energy has revealed that energy from its upcoming energy projects will cost 20% less to produce compared to the Liddell power station.

Below are the projects AGL will be bringing online as part of its new energy portfolio.

Approved Projects

Coopers Gap Wind Farm

Coopers Gap Wind Farm will be Australia’s largest wind farm. It will have a capacity of 453 MW and will power more than 260,000 homes. GE and CATCOM will develop and build the $850 million project.

GE and CATCON, will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the Coopers Gap Wind Farm, which includes the supply, transportation, erection, fit-out and commissioning of 123 wind generation turbines, together with the design and construction of the turbine foundations, internal road and hardstand network, electrical reticulation system, external road upgrades and construction of an Operations and Maintenance Facility.

Silverton Wind Farm

The Silverton Wind Farm will have a capacity of 200 MW and will power more than 137,000 homes.

GE and civil engineering construction company, CATCON, won the major contract to develop and build the $450 million Silverton Wind Farm, in what will be the sixth largest wind farm in Australia. GE and CATCON, will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the Silverton Wind Farm Project, which includes the supply, transportation, erection, fit-out and commissioning of 58 wind generation turbines, together with the design and construction of the WTG foundations, internal road and hardstand network, electrical reticulation system, external road upgrades and the construction of an Operations and Maintenance Facility.
