Bishnupur, popularly known as “Temple Town” remained as a centre of the cultural excellence during sixteenth to eighteenth century Bengal. It was the capital of Ancient Malla dynasty of Bengal who reigned over 1200 years that came to an end in the early nineteenth century. Bishnupur earned its fame for its historical monuments and temples those are surviving with their beauty over centuries. Bishnupur started flourishing during the period of Bir Hambir, the 49th Malla king. He embraced Vaishnavism under the influence of Srinivas Acharya, the then famous scholar of Gauriya Vaisnavism and decieded to built 108 Vishnu temples in Bishnupur.

The temples of Bishnupur represent richest artistry of the artisans, both in terracotta relief work and stone engraving. The brilliance of architecture, excellence of terracotta and stone art elevated this small town of Bankura district to the world map of artistry.
The film documented the rich heritage of Bishnupur through its brilliant temple tradition, surviving over centuries.
