Seal Looks at His Rescuer After Painful Disentanglement

It's hard to watch as the OCN rescuers hold down a scared and compromised entangled animal to carefully remove a loop of braided fishing line. The cut is very deep, there is fresh blood, and the seal is suffering. Naude has to use the crocheting hook to dig deep into the wound while Tony tries to comfort the animal. It is a horrible ordeal for both, the animal and the rescuers. The animal does not know what a rescue is. He only feels pain and fear - until he realizes that he is being released suddenly! His confusion shows when he looks back at his rescuer. We appreciate little moments like this because we believe we can see the seal's internal shift from fear to hope.
