The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul of Pécs ( Pécs Cathedral , Basilica or Castle Church , until the end of the 20th century Saint Peter's Cathedral ) is the cathedral of the Diocese of Pécs , one of the characteristic buildings of the city. The cathedral, which has 11th-century foundations, reached its present form in the late 19th century based on the plans of Friedrich von Schmidt. Its organ is the 100th work of József Angster. The church was granted the rank of Basilica minor in 1991 , before the visit of Pope John Paul II to Hungary . Its current parish priest is Father Róbert Máger.
