The ball that changed it all is back, this time in an even better color. The gold ball gets a new look, scent and finish with the tour ruby, but does that mean a different level of performance? This piece features the proven R2S pearl cover finished with the all new reactagloss polish, powered inside by the c3 centripetal core.

The 4.5 x 5 x 4 2LS layout is one that is meant to stay out of the way. We all know how good the iq tour gold was, so in the hopes that this was just as good, I wanted a simple layout to just let the ball do what it is designed to do.

And on the lanes, wow. That’s just about all I can say. If it weren’t for the wild success of the original primal rage, this one might be coming for the title of “the red ball” similar to it’s “gold ball” predecessor. It looked great outside, inside, in friction, in oil, rolling it, spinning it… All I had to do was pick the right thing in different parts of the lane and the ball did the rest.

To think that this piece is the same as the iQ emerald is crazy. That ball and I did not ever match up together, but this ruby feels like one I’m going to throw about as much as I can. I know the finish is different, but it also goes to show that color does actually contribute to performance on the lane.

The list of potential downsides is short, but it is possible to get lost in what you’re supposed to do with the ball as it is so versatile. Being in that benchmark zone and being to responsive to hand position means that you have to throw it well and the right way to yield great results. But when you do, look out pins.

So with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is balanced bowlers. I know there will come a day that I get absolutely run over by someone in a tournament who has this in their hand to go along with their matched up rev rate and ball speed. The second is rev dominant bowlers. The gold ball was the piece to go to when the lanes were cooked, and this is more of that, so if you need one you can get inside and bang on, this is the one.

The all new iQ tour ruby from storm may just look like a refresh of the tour gold, but let’s be honest, with performance like this, everything looks better in red.
