ON THE PIECE

In English, the title of this work for flute, bass clarinet, guitar, and violin signifies an "Exploration of the Whiteness," or blankness. This whiteness is rendered sonically through quiet, often wispy materials: breath sounds in the bass clarinet, soft notes in the highest and thinnest register of the violin, and a continuous tremolo on the guitar's top string. A concealed intensity colors the entire work, only occasionally rising to the surface.
