Daytin Baker’s interception and D.J. Bell’s 15-yard TD run lifted Pierce County to a 13-7 overtime win against #1 ranked Oconee County in the Class 3A championship. Scoreless until the fourth quarter, Oconee took the lead on Texas A&M commit Jake Johnson’s TD reception. Pierce tied the game three minutes later on a 5-yard D.J. Bell run to force OT. It was the Bears’ first state title. On Oconee County’s first play in overtime, quarterback Jacob Wright had his pass picked off by Baker, his second interception of the game. On Pierce County’s first play, Bell took the direct snap and ran around the left corner for a 15-yard touchdown run and the victory.
