During the reign of Queen Mary I, (who is also known as Bloody Mary) there were hundreds of people who were burned at the stake for religious crimes and heresy. This was said to have been the most serious offence someone in Tudor England could commit, but Bishop Hugh Latimer and Bishop Nicholas Ridley were both burned on the same fire for religious crimes by Mary I. It was a harrowing execution and two of the most senior figures in the English Church were executed in front of a huge crowd in Oxford.
