Girls are diagnosed with autism far less often than boys are, but there are many questions about why that is. Christine Wu Nordahl, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and a neuroimaging expert, and Brianna Heath, project manager for the Autism Phenome Project and the GAIN (Girls with Autism – Imaging of Neurodevelopment) study, discuss what’s known about autism in girls. They also talk about the GAIN study, which is actively recruiting, as well as NeuroTeens, a social support group for autistic girls and nonbinary teens.
