Golar LNG: Using floating LNG to support the energy transition, circular economy and host communities

With a maritime history since 1946 and over 50 years in the Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) business, Golar is one of the world’s most innovative and experienced independent owners and operators of floating LNG infrastructure. We developed the world's first Floating LNG liquefaction terminal (FLNG) and Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) from converted LNG carriers. Golar focuses on the design, conversion, ownership, and operation of FLNGs, which offer lower costs, shorter lead times, and reduced risks compared to traditional land-based plants. This is particularly advantageous for developing economies and remote areas, enabling the commercialisation of smaller gas accumulations and providing employment, investment, and tax revenues to host countries.

Golar supports the circular economy by refurbishing older LNG carriers instead of scrapping them, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33%, equivalent to removing 25,000 cars from the road annually. Their FLNG units utilise waste heat, resulting in low carbon intensity. Additionally, Golar converts flare gas into LNG, replacing more polluting fuels and thereby supporting renewable energy grids. This provides an immediate solution for reducing global CO2 emissions.
