Dive into Climate Solutions with Ian Monroe

We kicked off our Global Summit with an inspiring session featuring Ian Monroe, President and Chief Investment Officer at Etho Capital, in conversation with CGM council member Chong Kok Wai. Ian brought a practical vision of finance as a force for climate leadership, exploring how aligning investments with ESG goals reduces climate risk while strengthening competitiveness.

Ian is also the co-founder of the Climate+Positive Investing Alliance (C+PIA) and co-author of the textbook Solving Climate Change: A Guide for Learners and Leaders, has spent over a decade teaching climate solutions and sustainable investing at Stanford University. He also founded Oroeco, a platform rewarding actions that tackle climate change.

In his session, Ian highlighted the rapid global adoption of clean technologies—from solar and battery storage to electric vehicles and agrivoltaics—showing how electrification and efficiency can cut fossil fuel demand by up to 75%. He emphasized the importance of circularity in solar and wind equipment, carbon removal solutions, and the role of policy and social influence in accelerating the clean energy transition.

Ian concluded with a powerful call to action: start at home. Electrifying your own life—from vehicles to home appliances—creates ripple effects that inspire others and scale up climate solutions globally.
