Vintage British Aircraft & Airlines Special! * Classic footage from 1987-2004 *

This footage filmed at East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport by aviation videography legend Ian Austin, shows some of the great aircraft and airlines we used to have in Britain.
Aircraft such as the Vickers Viscount, BAC 1-11, BAe ATP and Concorde were familiar sights across the UK and northern Europe during the 1970's and '80's.
Airlines like BMA/BM British Midland, BAF British Air Ferries, Orion Airways, Air Europe, Dan Air and Britannia Airways were part of the very fabric of British Airports and gave a real sense of familiarity and friendliness.

Also seen is the very first Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 G-VIRG making a special charter from East Midlands to Gatwick.
This footage was filmed at East Midlands back in 1987 and shows just how close aviation fans could get to the planes back then and also how children weren't all glued to mobile phones!
The Concorde footage shows how this amazing plane was fully utilised by British Airways back in the 1980's and '90's, when the Concorde fleet was not operating on scheduled services the 'out of service' planes were put to use on 'Concorde Charters'. This footage perfectly illustrates one of those flights and also what a great interaction the Concorde crews had with the general public, as the aircraft strikes a pose for assembled crowd and lowers it's nose too! and does possibly the shortest Concorde take off ever! Great days. Watch out for the lovely moment as Concorde arrives an Airways International Cymru BAC 1-11 departs!
