The Colocasia plant is an evergreen plant with green heads and large leaves. These plants are also known as elephant ear plant due to the shape of their large leaves and are mostly known by that name. Six months before viewers I brought a small elephant air plant from the ground and then I shifted it to a pot now because this monsoon season is the growing season for elephant air plant for healthy growth of the plant. So I shifted it to a big plastic pot a few weeks ago and within a few weeks you can see the healthy growth of this plant.

Elephant air plants can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Viewers, the plant you see now was grown in the ground here a few months ago. There were many other elephant plants growing in the area, so I took this small plant out for my terrace and Shifted to a smaller 12-in pot.

The soil of the elephant plant in the pots should always be kept moist so always use large sized pots for such plants as it is easier to keep the soil moist in large pots. And besides, if we use plastic pots, it will be easier to keep the potting soil moist. So three weeks ago I shifted it to a larger sized plastic pot. Elephant air plants grow rapidly in well-drained, moist and slightly acidic soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 7. These plants are ideal plants for wetlands, swamps or water gardens. Their soil in pots should always be moist but not wet. Therefore, it is necessary to have extra drainage holes under the pots.

Colocasia, the elephant ear plant, grows well in full sun, but grows faster in less sun and shady areas. Dark green leaves need sunlight to maintain their color. The more sunlight the plant receives, the more water it will need to maintain soil moisture. 

Elephant plants need regular watering in summer and on very hot days they need to be watered twice a day. And in winter, water should always be given as needed.

Such plants in pots should not be grown in full sunlight as too much sunlight will burn the leaves, so they should be grown indoors and in a place with more bright light. These plants grow rapidly at a temperature of 15 to 21 degrees Celsius. 

So many friends can see the results after three weeks. This plant is growing very fast. These plants are widely grown for greenery and beauty. Like all large leaves, elephant ear plants are high feeders and require a high nitrogen fertilizer. During the spring and summer season, be sure to apply a high-nitrogen fertilizer in liquid form once a month.

Damaged and brown leaves should be cut off to make space for new leaves. And in the winter season, the potted elephant air plant must be shifted indoors to protect it from the night frost. 

These plants are not grown through seeds but their propagation is done through tubers. Tubers grow in the ground with roots embedded in the soil. We will definitely share a detailed video on this topic in a few months. 

Yellowing of leaves, falling leaves, cut leaves and wilting of leaves can have various causes. As the leaves turn yellow due to excess or lack of sunlight, water or fertilizer. And also in autumn the leaves turn yellow and fall and the plant goes into a dormant period and in the spring the plant starts its growth again. And friends, just like light, water and the amount of fertilizer is too much or the temperature becomes too cold, the leaves start to fall apart from the heavy leaves.

These plants are rarely attacked by pests and insects because they themselves are highly poisonous and if the plant is damaged by insect attack from anywhere, it is better to cut off the affected part. Keep small children and household pets away from it as it is a poisonous plant.
