If you're taking a truck through a Mule camp, try to do so without any cargo on your back. That way, if they happen to disable your truck they will leave you alone in favor of the cargo on your truck. Once you're tossed from the truck, walk away from it and wait for it to become accessible again. Don't show any aggression towards the Mules and they will soon turn passive. Watch the color of their odradek, red means they're still hostile, yellow cautious, and if their odradek is down they'll basically ignore you.
