DEAD MALL - University Mall - Tampa Florida | ERA_Productions

Hello everyone, and welcome to the University Mall in Tampa Florida. Originally opening as University Square Mall in 1974, The mall would have a successful start! Developed by Edward J. DeBartolo, the mall anchored at the time by Robinson of Florida and Mass Brothers. More anchors would join University Mall throughout the 70s and 80s including Sears and JCPenney to a few. Throughout the first few decades of life, University Mall would do really well! However, the 2000s would see competition steal the spotlight from University Mall, and anchors would start to leave, including JCPenney, and other stores would be downgraded such as Dillard's. The 2010s would be rough, as more tenants would leave for better locations elsewhere. As more anchors like Macy’s and Sears would close, redevelopment would be announced for the property. Even though redevelopment has started, the mall is still currently open, but who knows how long it has left. Let’s take a walk through the University Mall in Tampa Florida, in case if we never see it again!
