Opening of the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, April 2, 1955 (no sound)

These clips show the exciting opening of the Macdonald Bridge, including ribbon cutting, speeches (no audio available), the parade of the first vehicles and pedestrians to officially cross the bridge and ends with a panorama over north Dartmouth, from a collection of family home movies. The clip has been edited from an original seven-minute recording.

This collection of home movies was sent by a Halifax Councillor to the Halifax Municipal Archives in 2008. It was later discovered that these film reels had been found in a dumpster outside of a house on Roxton Road that was being renovated. Some of the movies have been digitized from their original 8mm film format.
