Look how magical and satisfying this glaze is when you can see the reduction happen. Copper heavy glazes give some wonderful results, I have lots of videos up with the finished effect but here you can see it happening. The pot has come out of the kiln at 960 to 1000 degrees celsius - when it touches the sawdust it starts to burn so you can see it is surrounded by flames. the glaze on the pot is all the same copper glaze, some of it is in the flame so has no oxygen (a reduction atmosphere) and some is being exposed to the air making it oxidise or RUST. You can see in the reduction the glaze is copper and in the oxidisation almost black, between the two there are rainbows dancing across the pottery!!! and its this that you want to capture in the glaze. the cooler the pot gets the slower the reaction so I usually wait until the rainbows are looking great and dip the whole thing in water to stop the reaction.
