Janmashtami, the day that marks the birth of Lord Krishna, holds a special place in the hearts of millions. For our family, this Janmashtami became a journey of deep spiritual connection and shared joy as we visited two sacred places: the magnificent ISKCON temple in the morning and the serene Shiv Mandir in the evening.

As we approached the ISKCON temple, the grandness of the architecture immediately struck us. The temple, adorned with intricate carvings and towering spires, was a sight to behold. It seemed as if every corner of the structure was echoing the chants of “Hare Krishna, Hare Rama,” which reverberated through the air, creating an atmosphere of devotion and peace.

Entering the temple, we were enveloped by the sound of bhajans being sung with great fervor. The melodic tunes, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the mridangam and the gentle tinkling of cymbals, created a symphony that seemed to touch the very soul. Gungun and Chaxu, though young, were mesmerized by the sight and sound, their eyes wide with wonder.

As we moved through the temple, we joined the throng of devotees waiting for a glimpse of the deity. The darshan of Lord Krishna, adorned in splendid attire, was a moment of pure bliss. The idol was beautifully decorated with flowers and jewelry, and the image of Krishna as a playful child, the “Bal Gopal,” brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Dadiji, with her hands folded in prayer, stood silently, her eyes closed in deep meditation, perhaps recalling her own experiences of Janmashtami from years gone by.

After the aarti, we made our way to the temple courtyard, where we participated in a special puja dedicated to Lord Krishna. The puja was a detailed ritual, with offerings of flowers, fruits, and sweets, all presented with great reverence. The priest explained the significance of each step, making it a deeply educational experience for Gungun and Chaxu, who listened intently, absorbing the cultural heritage that was being passed down to them.

One of the highlights of our visit to the ISKCON temple was the kirtan, a joyous singing of Krishna’s praises that brought everyone together in a collective expression of devotion. The kirtan was led by a group of devotees who sang with such passion that it was impossible not to be moved. We joined in, clapping and singing along, feeling a sense of unity with the hundreds of others who were there. The energy in the room was electric, and for a moment, it felt as though time had stopped, and we were all connected by the same divine spirit.
The day’s spiritual journey didn’t end with our visit to the ISKCON temple. In the evening, we set out once again, this time to the Shiv Mandir, a place that holds a special place in our family’s traditions. This time, Papaji and Mummyji joined us, making the occasion even more special.

It’s a place of tranquility, a haven where one can connect with the divine in a more intimate and personal way. As we arrived, the sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the temple. The atmosphere was serene, with the soft chanting of mantras in the background and the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze.

Entering the temple, we were greeted by the sight of the Shivalinga, adorned with flowers and bathed in the light of countless oil lamps. The temple was filled with the fragrance of jasmine and sandalwood, creating an atmosphere of peace and devotion. The priest was preparing for the evening aarti, and we found a spot near the front, eager to participate in the rituals.

After the aarti, we took some time to sit in quiet reflection. The Shiv Mandir is a place where one can truly feel at peace, and it was a moment to pause and reflect on the day’s experiences. The simplicity of the temple, combined with its deep spiritual energy, made it a place where one could connect with the divine on a very personal level.

Before leaving, we offered our prayers to Lord Shiva, asking for his blessings on our family. Mummyji, in particular, spent a few extra moments in prayer, her face serene and calm. It was clear that the visit to the Shiv Mandir had brought her a deep sense of peace and fulfillment.
As we reached home, we knew that this Janmashtami would be remembered not just for the visits to the temples, but for the time spent together as a family, sharing in the joy of devotion and the peace of spiritual connection. It was a day that had brought us closer to the divine and to each other, a day that had filled our hearts with love, joy, and gratitude.

This vlog captures the essence of that day, a day that was not just about rituals and prayers, but about the deeper connection we share with our culture, our beliefs, and most importantly, with each other. It’s a celebration of faith, of family, and of the enduring spirit of Janmashtami.
