Women prepare to take on the climate impact of militarism and war & to form an affinity group for April 21st London XR event.

Dec.9 -11 2022, 60 women came to Aldermaston Women's Camp to celebrate the most powerful women-only event ever and turn the spotlight on our illegal nuclear weapon factory.

On December 12th 1982, 30,000 women held hands around the 9 mile perimeter of the base at Greenham Common to say "No" to the US Cruise nuclear weapons being brought there.

Two years later in 1984, mired in mud and harrassed by ruthless bailiffs, some women established a quieter, less contested, respite camp by the nearby nuclear weapons factory at Aldermaston.

Rebecca Johnson, one of the Greenham women explains how the Aldermaston Camp started in the winter of 1984. "We decided to escape from Greenham, where we were living, and camp at the British nuclear bomb factory for a change and turn the spotlight on British nuclear weapons.

Since then, the Aldermaston Women's Camp, the only women only peace camp in Engand, established a monthly presence.

Women were then urged to come to the December 2022 camp, for the 40 year anniversary celebration of "Embrace the Base" and to weave the web of connection once again. Over the weekend of Dec. 10/11th, 60 women braved the freezing temperatures.

There were workshops, talks and plans made for an affinity group to attend The Big One on the 21st April in London, to highlight the huge but unacknowledged military carbon footprint.

The Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp is at RG7 4PW.
