1. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he welcomes more Chinese students to study in the United States and aims to expand the number to around 600,000. Considering the previous experiences of Chinese students in the U.S., what is the Foreign Ministry’s comment on this?

Educational exchanges and cooperation help enhance mutual understanding and interactions among people of all countries. We hope the U.S. side will follow through President Trump’s statement welcoming Chinese students to study in the United States, stop unwarranted harassment, interrogation, and deportation of Chinese students, and earnestly safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.

2. President Trump also said that the US and Russia are discussing nuclear arsenal reductions and expressed hope that China would join the process. Is China willing to participate in trilateral negotiations on nuclear disarmament?

We have noted relevant reports. Countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should earnestly fulfill their special and primary responsibilities for nuclear disarmament, substantially and meaningfully reduce their nuclear stockpiles, and create conditions for the ultimate realization of complete and thorough nuclear disarmament.
China and the U.S. are not on the same level in terms of nuclear capabilities, and the two countries differ significantly in nuclear policies and strategic security environments. It is neither reasonable nor realistic to ask China to join trilateral nuclear disarmament negotiations with the U.S. and Russia.
China adheres to a policy of no first use of nuclear weapons, upholds a self-defensive nuclear strategy, and maintains its nuclear force at the minimum level required for national security. China does not engage in an arms race with any country. China’s nuclear power and policy important contributions to world peace.

3. President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea said that the country can no longer follow the policy of security with US, economy with China. What is China’s comment on this?

A sound, stable, and continuously deepening China–ROK relationship serves the fundamental interests of both peoples and contributes to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond. This is a shared understanding between China and the ROK.
The development of China–ROK relations is based on mutual interests, does not target any third party, and should not be affected by external factors.
China’s policy toward the ROK remains consistent and stable. We hope the ROK side will work with China in the same direction to jointly promote the sustained, sound, and stable development of the China–ROK strategic cooperative partnership.
