Saturday August 12th Interior Alaska Wildfire Update
Warmer and drier conditions are expected for the weekend and a wind event will bring near Red Flag conditions to the northern Interior. An increase in fire behavior is anticipated. Additional resources are getting into place in Alaska to prepare for crews and other personnel timing out on their assignments. An air quality advisory remains in effect for central and eastern Alaska through Sunday morning. The rains the past few days have kept a majority of the fires from spreading but smoke production is still occurring. Forecasted winds over the weekend should help clear smoke from the areas but will also likely increase fire activity and smoke production. There are currently 153 active fires: 52 in critical or full protection and 101 in limited management zones. 274,430 acres have burned statewide.

EVACUATION STATUS:
#LostHorseCreekFire: The Fairbanks North Star Borough reduced the evacuation status for Upper Haystack from GO to SET due to reduced threat. Residents who evacuated the area may return to their homes. All other roads in the Haystack subdivision remain in SET. Although conditions are improving in the area, there is still a potential threat. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. https://www.fnsb.gov/

#McCoyCreekFire: A GO evacuation status remains in effect for Fairbanks North Star Borough residents in the Lower Salcha River, approximately from river mile 3 to 40. The Middle Salcha remains in Set status, approximately river mile 40 to 61. https://www.fnsb.gov/

#AndersonComplex Fires: The Denali Borough moved residents in the North Forties and Kobe Ag subdivisions from SET to READY. The City of Anderson remains in READY status. The Teklanika River, all residents along the Teklanika River, all residents in Clear Sky homestead (not the Clear Sky Lodge), and residents adjacent to Rose Hip Creek remain in evacuation status GO.
