Accounts payable AP subsidiary ledger explained and example given, accounts payable subsidiary ledger being a ledger that backs up the accounts payable account A/P on the trial balance, a subsidiary ledger that backs up the accounts payable account AP on the balance sheet by listing transaction first by vendor and then by date of transaction as opposed to the general ledger, a ledger that every account has, which shows account detail by date of transaction. The accounts payable subsidiary ledger uses the same date as the general ledger in that it is built from the same transactions that make up the general ledger, the order of the subsidiary ledger being the difference, an order that provides a company with information about who they owe so that they know who they need to pay. A computerized system will generate the subsidiary ledger at the same time as the general ledger, the system often being driven by forms like entering bills, the entering of forms generating journal entries, journal entries automatically being posted to both the general ledger and accounts payable subsidiary ledger, the result being an equal balance in the accounts payable subsidiary ledger, accounts payable general ledger, accounts payable trial balance, and accounts payable balance sheet.
