We were the Railway Children

1.
We were the Railway Children
Our Daddy's did us proud
They ran the Indian Railways
Mumbai & Cal to Oudh
Mum stayed at home with us children
She kept the home fires burning bright
Pa went on line in the early morn(ing) and
Came home late at night.

2.
I wanna be a Steam train driver
Just like my Daddy used to be
Paan, Bidi, Cigarettes sound so familiar to me.
Garam, garam Caapee
Sweet condensed milk tea
Aare Baba have some stick jaw toffee
or Lonavla Chickee.

Chorus:
We hear the whistle blowing as uncle
As an extra cloud of steam puffs up
High into the sky
Uncle Noel's the Station Master
as the train pulls in real slow
And our Budda works the signals
Telling them which way to go.

3.
We were the Railway Children living in the Railway Colony
and, went to the Railway school called Oak Grove
In the hills of Jharipani
The students came from all over this vast and
and beauteous land
Asansol, Pune, New Delhi and even from Jharkand

4
Let's not forget the “Institute”
The dance parties to which we'd go
The little kiddies Christmas Tree
Sport Day, Fancy Dress, the Talent Show.
Come around December 31 with the ayah we would stay
As mum and dad dressed to the nine's to dance the night away.

5
Those railways tracks did clickety clack across
India far n wide
The WooWoo of the whistle heard around the country side
So many Happy memories chase around my mind
When we were the Railway children
…...Another place ….. another time.
