Weird and Wonderful: Long-armed crab lives on deep-sea corals

Описание к видео Weird and Wonderful: Long-armed crab lives on deep-sea corals

These deep-sea crabs have extremely long arms that extend the reach of their claws to grab pieces of food that float by. Small food particles in the passing current are trapped on their spiny arms and they scrape the bits off and eat them. Long-armed crabs (family Chirostylidae) rely on their coral partners in this deep-sea community, where survival is dependent on the health of all its inhabitants.
