Akal Takht: Meaning the “Throne of the Timeless One” is the chief centre of religious authority of Sikhism. It is the highest temporal seat of Sikhism and was founded by the Sixth Sikh master Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji in the year 1609. Within the imposing five storied structure, is the special chamber where the Guru Granth Sahib is taken for rest during the night. The Takht also houses weapons which belonged to Sikh Gurus and many of its renowned warriors, as well as many other treasures of Sikh history.

Darshani Deori: The main entrance leading to the pathway to Harmandir Sahib is known as Darshani Deori. As soon as Guru Granth Sahib is taken for Sukh Asan (for rest at night) to Akal Takhat Sahib, the gates of Darshani Deori are closed from inside. Every morning devotees gather in front of the gate of Darshani Deori, recite the Shabads (hymns) till the gates are opened for the day.

Ber Baba Budha Ji: It is a 400 years old historic Ber (jujube) tree in the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex associated with Baba Budha Ji. He was companion of many of the early Gurus and supervised the digging of the sacred pool and the construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib under this tree in the late sixteenth century. Baba Budha Ji was the first Granthi in Sikhism and was appointed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

Causeway: This is bridge that leads to the main Shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib. It starts from the Darshani Deori and the devotees have to cross this causeway to reach Sri Harmandir Sahib. The causeway is 202 feet in length and 21 feet in width.

Dukh Bhanjani Beri: Dukh Bhanjani tree is approximately 400-year-old jujube tree. This tree is of great significance and that is why it is considered the most sacred tree in the complex of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Dukh Bhanjani Ber Tree is associated with the legend that the pond next to it cured Bibi Rajni's leper husband. Having heard of this miracle, Guru Ram Das Ji transformed the reservoir into a bathing tank and named the tree Dukh Bhanjani Ber, meaning eradicator of suffering.

Circumambulatory path: The eastern end of the causeway attaches to the Circumambulatory path which is know as 'Pardakshna', a 13ft. wide pathway that encircles Sri Harmandir Sahib.
