On Day 4 we got sort of a late start after sleeping in a bit. Then we headed off to Henderson, where Mr. E had to do a little bit of work. We hadn't been over that way before but it was predictably astonishingly hot and pretty dusty. Luckily we passed Green Valley Ranch on the way to our destination and I convinced Mr. E to stop by there on our way back to the Strip as we'd heard about GVR but never visited before. We were really impressed! This is a huge casino that's right next to an upscale outdoor shopping mall. It has cinemas, lots of restaurants--everything from food court stalls to upscale dining, bingo, and tons and tons of slots! This place was massive and I'm sure that we didn't even scratch the surface of what Green Valley Ranch has to offer.

We were delighted to start off with a nice win in the high limit room, followed by a lengthy cheap-o video poker session for me, and then a super fun big winning session on some of our favorite old school slots, including Hoot Loot and Mystical Mermaid.

It was getting late and we had to wrap things up so we could head back to Aria and get ready for dinner. We luckily made good time and were able to visit the Tower Suites Lounge for a quick coffee pick-me-up, followed by a meetup with Frenchy for video poker and a cocktail at the Gem Bar. He suggested his Frenchy Tea, which was unbelievably delicious and refreshing on such a hot day. We played a variety of slots for a bit on the floor and in the high limit room, and then headed off to Carbone for dinner.

We were quite hungry and pretty irritated when we arrived at Carbone and were told that they were running about half an hour behind. It was just the two of us and we thought that they'd probably be able to seat us quicker than that so we stayed close by. However, it was more than 45 minutes later when we were finally seated, grrr! Things did not start off especially well when our waiter seemed irritated by the questions were asked about the menu--we hadn't been to Carbone before and we weren't sure how to order. For example, is the pasta served as it is in Italy, as more of a first course, or as a huge entree as it typically is in America? We settled upon what we thought would work for us to share and it turned out to be the perfect amount of food for two very hungry folks. The waiter did warm up to us and he even brought us a complimentary little dessert after we said we were too stuffed to enjoy anything from the dessert cart.

We enjoyed our meal at Carbone overall but this is probably going to be a one and done for us. We especially liked our cocktail and wine, the complimentary appetizers, the caprese salad and the pasta, but those were the standout items for us. The ribeye seemed like it was prepared in a very sort of heavy wine sauce that we thought took away from the flavor of the meat, and the asparagus was covered in a ton of herbs that we didn't think enhanced the flavor very well. These preparations weren't noted on the menu as far as we recall, so we were surprised when they arrived.

The other thing that will keep us from coming back was the really long delay to be seated when we arrived in plenty of time for our reservation. There were many other people in the same situation and there was A LOT of grumbling amongst folks. I heard many people saying that they had made their reservations months in advance and they were displeased when they had to wait so long for their tables. I think it would have gone a long way to have someone come out with a tray of small bites of some kind and maybe even some mini glasses of wine so that guests could have a little something while they waited over 45 minutes for a table. Something to make folks feel looked after.

After dinner we went back downstairs to play slots for awhile and the standout for us was the Whitney Houston slot! We had some freeplay and we used some of that to get started, but Whitney was very generous with tons of bonuses and big wins!
