The next-generation Mini Cooper John Cooper Works (JCW) is set to make its debut this fall, promising exciting advancements for enthusiasts. Mini will give us a first glimpse of the camouflaged model during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on June 1, where it will compete in the SP 3T category with Bulldog Racing. While Mini hasn’t fully revealed what's under the hood, it has confirmed that the JCW will come with both gas and all-electric powertrains.

Speculation is rife about the power output of the new JCW. The current Cooper SE makes 214 horsepower, and rumors suggest the new electric JCW could produce around 250 hp. In contrast, the new Cooper S with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 201 hp, which is the version expected to be available in the U.S. Initially, the U.S. market will likely only get the gasoline-powered JCW until Mini begins producing the electric variant in the UK, which is still two years away.

Mini is focusing on balancing weight and handling for the new JCW, opting for a single electric motor powering the front wheels. The higher output necessitates a larger 54.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The bespoke camouflage, inspired by the classic white-and-red color scheme of Mini race cars from the 1960s, features a “37” logo to honor the brand’s 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo victory.

A late 2024 reveal sets the stage for a 2025 release, with an expected starting price of around $40,000, depending on the powertrain.
