Описание к видео Michael Davis (MC5) and Scott Campbell at St. Andrews, Detroit in 1987

In honor of the late Michael Davis on his birthday, June 5th, this video is posted to YouTube. Not seen since 1987, it shows him playing two of his songs at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit, on April 4, 1987.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote about Michael Davis (Feb. 19, 2012), "The original MC5 rose to prominence from 1964 to 1972, making waves with incendiary anti-establishment lyrics and a blistering early-punk sound, starting with their first album Kick Out the Jams, which was recorded live and released in 1969. The excellent studio albums Back in the USA and High Time followed in 1970 and 1971 before the band imploded due to substance abuse and middling commercial success. The group soon received its due, at least in historic terms, as the the first wave of punk rock bands nearly universally cited the MC5, the New York Dolls and the Stooges as key influences. The bandmembers were active during those years -- Davis with former Stooge Ron Ashton in Destroy All Monsters, Smith in Sonic's Rendezvous Band -- but did not break out of cult status.

A series of posthumous releases of varying quality have emerged in the years since the MC5's demise, but several live recordings from the group's peak years capture it in all its raucous glory."

Billboard Magazine wrote about Michael Davis performing with Scott Campbell (Feb. 21, 2012 issue): "Davis also played in Sillies leader Scott Campbell's band during the late 80s, and Campbell remembered that "Mike's abilities as a bassist barely scratched the surface in the MC5...Mike was the one guy I knew and played with who could dance around the fundamental of a chord and never lose sight of the actual melody. He could complicate the hell out of a bass line, and it always worked in the context of the song.""

The MC5 band was founded in Lincoln Park, Michigan, where from I also hail and, like many creative people, have been greatly influenced by the group. On July 11-12, 2015, the Lincoln Park Historical Society holds a special remembrance of the MC5, with a display of memorabilia, reception and concert with many guests. Michael Davis appeared at Saint Andrews Hall in 1987 as part of a benefit for the Detroit Public School and Public Television station WDTR-FM. Davis sings and plays Bass Guitar, with Scott Campbell on Lead Guitar and vox. I'll post his bandmates' names ASAP.

Scott Campbell has been involved in local bands since 1977, when he formed The Sillies, Detroit's first punk band, while he was managing the punk-oriented Bookies.Club 870. In 1982 he changed his music to a mix of alternative and power-pop styles. He started a series of Scott Campbell Bands with various members, and continues to play dates around the area.

You will witness two of Michael Davis' songs: "Rocking The Cradle" and "Life Is A Place." This video played over local Cable-TV in the Detroit area during May of 1987. The Videography is by Scott Campbell and George Lees. This factual work is available on YouTube for educational purposes.
