আজ গোটা দেশ জুড়ে আনন্দের সঙ্গে উদযাপন করা হচ্ছে প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবস। এই দিনেই ১৯৫০ সালে ভারতের সংবিধান কার্যকর হয়েছিল। এই সংবিধান রচনা করতে ২ বছর, ১১ মাস এবং ১৮ দিন সময় লেগেছিল। ২৪ শে জানুয়ারি রাষ্ট্রপতি নির্বাচনের পর ২৬ শে জানুয়ারি ১৯৫০ সালে ভারতের প্রথম রাষ্ট্রপতি ড. রাজেন্দ্র প্রসাদ ভারতের পতাকা উত্তোলন করেছিলেন। সেদিন তিনি ভারতকে সম্পূর্ণ প্রজাতন্ত্র হিসেবে ঘোষণা করেছিলেন

The drafting of the Constitution took 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days to complete. Following the presidential election on January 24, 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, hoisted the Indian flag on January 26, 1950. On this historic day, he officially declared India as a fully sovereign republic.
