The Best Belay Technique To Teach New Rock Climbers

Описание к видео The Best Belay Technique To Teach New Rock Climbers

Climbing is Dangerous. YOU are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your climbing partners.

Let's save some lives and avoid some injuries. Here is the best belay technique to teach to new rock climbers. It will also benefit veteran rock climbers to review their method to see if it can be improved.

You owe it to your climbing partners to be the very best belayer you can be.

In this video:

1. I demonstrate the very dangerous Alligator Belay Technique that is taught worldwide. This needs to be addressed in every climbing gym throughout the world. While belaying, you should NEVER JOIN YOUR HANDS TOGETHER ABOVE YOUR HEAD.

2. I show the correct belay method. Pull slack or give slack with your break hand below your chest or below your belay device. Let's call this technique "Kill The Alligator."

3. I define the "Danger Moment" when your climber is at the anchor, or asking for a "TAKE". If you revert to the dangerous Alligator Belay Technique, to take slack, you could cause your climber to deck.

4. Be safe. Be smart. Have others look at your belay technique. Don't allow your ego to injure or kill you or your climbing partners.
