Father and son, creator and creation, or "just an android" and "my mission"? Marcus and Douglas' relationship has never been simple. Can they ever just be a happy family?

I know I'm late to this feels-fest but I finally watched The Vanishing and just had to make something. It was supposed to be a relationship study (you know, like a character study but for a relationship? Is that a thing?) but then some "Douglas was evil but got a happy family so why couldn't Marcus?" crept in. And there's maybe a bit of an AU where Marcus reforms, or at least the hope of one, because the feels were killing me too much to end it on a purely sad note.
