Hi friends,
Did you know Khardung La pass is not the World's Highest motorable road..??!!
During the road trip from Nubra Valley from Leh Ladakh, you come across one of the dangerous road of the world which many people also claim to be the WORLD'S HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD, the KhardungLa pass. Even the summit signboards and local shops selling t-shirts claim the height to be 17982 ft but actually it is 17582 ft. and if you go through the list it is not even in the top 10 world's highest road , still it is a very important place which must be in your Ladakh itinerary.
The Border Roads Organisation in 2017 opened the UMLING LA pass near Hanle village about 230 km from LEH at an altitude of 19300 ft making it the World's Highest motorable road..!!
But all said, the road journey is really very awesome and scary at the same time. At some places the roads are very rough and has sharp turns so if you are not a expert rider, please book a cab for your safety.
Also at the top of the pass the oxygen level and the temperature is very low, so try to minimise your activity there and stay for not more than 10 -20 mins else you might feel hypothermia and headache.
Unfortunately, with increase in Earth's temperature, increase in tourism here, the snow at Khardungla top is melting and this is not a good sign for us. Let us try our level best to control pollution and go Green and together control this menace of Global Warming.!
