First of all, YES, this is the year 2011. In NE PA, you wouldn't know that the rest of the country is overrun with GEVOs & SD70-things. The ex-CNJ F3's that sat idle in Jim Thorpe for so long were taken to Scranton's famed Steamtown & handsomely repainted in DLW paint by Anthracite Railroads Historical Society. The pair pulled a brief photo train in June for their convention with no immediate plans for any other use. While they were not advertised to, they DID pull an excursion over the Pocono Mainline to Tobyhanna in July, with the planned pair of Reading F-units unable to the leave the barn pending inspection. This video is not only a document of the the roundtrip between Scranton & Tobyhanna on the route of the famed "Phoebe Snow" into the Poconos, it shows you how unique operations are in NE Pennsylvania. Not only can you catch classic steam & cab units pulling passenger trains, you will find nothing newer than an Alco or MLW pulling for host railroad Delaware-Lackawanna. Not to be one-upped, the ex-D&H (now CP) across the river is also heavy in elder SD40-2 consists pulling their own trains in 2011. So, sit back & see why this part of PA gets so much attention from railfans, railroad photographers & everyone else inbetween!
